Learn The Joy Of Saltwarter Fishing

A One-Hour Lesson, "One On One"

With Capt. Russell Tharin

Sounds like a simple and fun concept, but it takes years of trial and error on the water to be a confident and productive fisherman, you can save yourself alot of time and money if you have someone teach you the right way. I started to learn how to fish as a very young child, fishing with my dad and granddad on the St Johns River. One of the great joys of fishing is learning new ways and how to improve on old ways to catch fish and I am still learning something new all the time. I will be happy to pass on to you what I have learned in a lifetime of fishing.

In a one-hour lesson, "one on one," I can teach you the right way to cast your spinning rod or bait casting rod, casting distance with accuracy. You will learn line control fishing braided lines, fluorocarbon leaders and the knots you will need to learn to land big fish. And best of all you will learn the passion of the fight with your fish. Learn how to use proper angling methods to catch your fish and what not to do. Fishing seminars and clinics do not offer the new angler the starting point with his/her skill level where to start learning about fishing. This is where the one on one lesson can really give you a great start with your fishing instructions.

Here in Northeast Florida you will want to learn a variety of fishing strategies to catch fish. It is most important, first and fore most to have a safe and a good time on the water. Learn what are your best choices of tackle for your day of fishing. Many factors will influence your choices such as tides, wind, weather and seasons. My boat always has spinning rods, bait casting rods, and fly rods aboard. This will allow me to use a variety of rods to fish with as the tide or weather changes. What I am emphasizing is using the best rod you can to catch fish logically. Don't start out only wanting to learn just how to fly fish, be open-minded as you grow in the sport of fishing you will become more experienced as to the best choices to make and you will have a goodtime on the water.

When you plan a saltwater fishing day, ask yourself these questions every time before you go fishing. What are my options? Do I have all the USGS safety gear required? What is the weather/marine forecast? What are my targeted species of fish? What will be the selected tackle for fishing? Do I have a float plan? Do I have my cell phone? Are my batteries charged? Did I let some one know where I was going and when I was returning? Do I have plenty of drinking water? This is only the beginning of hundreds of questions that go through in my mind prior to going out on the water, be safe and have a great time.
