When To Fish For Redfish?

Florida Redfish can be a target species anytime the weather is conducive to fishing. These fish are opportunists and are very competitive when they are in a school. We like to approach Redfish in shallow water, which requires stealthy stalks and good eyes to read the water. Redfish can be very nervous on a shallow-water flat. You don’t want to spook them. When the school has been spooked, the school may leave in a panic and they can get really tough to catch. Sometimes if Redfish move away, stay still and watch, they might settle down and come right back to the same spot.

Where To Fish For Redfish?

Florida Redfish can be targeted in a variety of locations you can fish near-shore, from the beach in the surf, in the sounds, inlets, marsh, rivers, creeks and flats, from salt water to brackish waters.

To successfully fish for Redfish, ask your self these 4 questions in this order.

1st Where are the Redfish safe from predators?
2nd Where are the Redfish the most comfortable?
3rd Where is the food that Redfish will feed on?
4th Where do Redfish spawn?

How We Will Fish For Redfish?

Redfish can be caught in Florida using a variety of methods. However, We like to sight fish for Redfish using light tackle, or fly fishing tackle. When the water is too high to sight fish, and the water temperature is in the middle sixties or higher, We love to throw top water plugs for Redfish. These fish will strike with violence. There is no mistaking a Redfish strike.

The angling challenges will be very thrilling; the hunting aspect of fishing for Redfish is very visual and exciting when the tides are right. It’s not unusual to see large schools of Redfish in shallow water during certain tide phases. Northeast Florida has the larges tide range in Florida, making for a very unique Redfish fishing experience. Our tides make it a requirement to be at the right place at the right time to intercept these fish as they move with the tide.
